WordPress migration

Import an existing WordPress site with content, media, users, and redirects preserved.

WordPress migration

Move from WordPress to WordSafe in about 15 minutes for most sites.

What comes over

  • Pages, posts, and custom post types
  • Categories, tags, and custom taxonomies
  • ACF field groups + values (mapped to WordSafe custom fields)
  • Media library (files + alt text)
  • Users (email + role — passwords require reset)
  • Menus
  • Yoast / RankMath SEO metadata
  • Comments (optional)
  • 301 redirects (auto-generated for permalink changes)

Import methods

1. WXR export (fastest)

  1. In WordPress: Tools → Export → All content → Download WXR.
  2. In WordSafe: Settings → Migration → Import WXR and upload.
  3. Map users and taxonomies if prompted.
  4. Media downloads in the background — track progress in Settings → Migration → Jobs.

2. Full ZIP (biggest fidelity)

Zip your entire wp-content directory + a database dump. Upload under Settings → Migration → Import ZIP. Slower but preserves theme customizations for review.

3. Live connector

Enter WP admin URL + application password. WordSafe pulls content over the REST API — good for staged, incremental migrations.

Redirects

Every changed permalink gets a 301. Review under SEO → Redirects before switching DNS.

Cutover checklist

  1. Import to WordSafe.
  2. Verify content on a preview domain.
  3. Update Google Search Console with the new sitemap.
  4. Switch DNS (Hosting → Add domain).
  5. Monitor SEO → 404 log for the next 7 days.
